Dance

Just like Strictly we have been dancing our way through the Autumn term learning a range of skills accompanying them to music and developing our creativity. Early Years have been using the ever-popular theme of Super Heros moving in different spaces with a focus on special awareness and moving to different tempos of music. We saw a lot of Spiderman, Hulk and Wonder Woman! Year 1 and Year 2 have been taking inspiration from Fairy tales and Space to create short motifs with clear star and finish positions, moving in different directions and beginning to show control over their own body and the way it moves. Year three have worked in small groups and as a whole class to create a wonderful dance to The Greatest Showman. The children focused on moving in a variety of formations including in unison and in cannon. They were able to ensure use of expression and so much energy to create The Greatest Show! In Year 4 we have become mini coaches and worked as a group to create a whole class routine. This allowed individuals to help choreograph thinking about timing and musicality, also giving time to improve performance throughout. Year 5’s focus was having a stimulus for their dance. They all had basketballs and had to use them within their dances as a prop or to support the beat. Year 6’s theme this year was Egyptians, they were able to use prior and new knowledge to create a variety of stanzas. Year 6 used great communication and maturity when working together alongside all the skills learnt in previous years. Another great unit of work in PE. Keep your eyes peeled for Extra Curricular Dance opportunities to continue the clear love of dance at Edward The Elder Primary School.
