Supporting Emotional Regulation
At Edward the Elder, we recognise the importance of helping children develop the skills to understand and regulate their emotions. To support this, we have a range of spaces and resources throughout the school that promote emotional wellbeing and self-regulation, including regulation stations in every classroom, sensory walks within the hall and playground and the Rainbow Room funded by Wednesfield Rotary Club.
Our classroom regulation stations provide children with opportunities to practise self-regulation within their learning environment. Children are supported through co-regulation with a trusted adult and can access a range of resources and strategies to help them manage their emotions and develop effective regulation skills.
​At times, children may benefit from time away from the classroom to help them refocus and regulate their emotions. Our sensory circuits include specially designed paths on the playground and activities in the hall. These provide opportunities for movement and sensory stimulation, helping children feel calmer, improve their focus and return to learning ready to engage.
The Rainbow Room provides physical activities that helps children regulate their sensory needs, improve focus, and prepare for learning. The room includes a combination of alerting, organising, and calming activities. Sensory circuits may be used at key points throughout the day to support concentration, emotional regulation, and successful participation in classroom learning.

Cherry Street SEND and Sensory Hub offers a range of services to support families of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). These include access to the SEND Early Identification and Support Service parent/carer offer, specialist health visitors, SEND stay & play, SEND surgeries and advice, parenting groups and family support.
