We were delighted to welcome Manny to Edward the Elder as part of Manny’s Mile, a fantastic fundraising event raising money for Dementia UK. Over two days, Thursday 17th and Friday 18th September, Manny is running one mile at 50 primary schools to raise awareness and support this important charity. Our new play leaders have had a brilliant first week in their new roles. Year 6 Teams 1 & 2 have successfully completed their training and have stepped into their responsibilities brilliantly. They have already shown great enthusiasm, confidence and leadership skills as they support younger children during playtimes. We are so proud of how well they have settled into their new roles. Our School Council delivered a fantastic sun-tastic assembly, teaching everyone the importance of staying safe in the sun. Year 5 had a great opportunity to visit Wednesfield Academy and take part in two DT lessons. First, we made rockets and watched them fly across the field. Then we went back into the workshops and raced F1 cars created by a laser cutting machine. The children were so impressed by the equipment and activities they can't wait to go back in a few weeks for an afternoon of PE!

Author Rani Virdee-Chahal visited our school to share her new book, The Simple Family, with children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story and learning about the inspiration behind the book. The book celebrates the importance of family, love and supporting one another.

As part of our “Global Warning” topic, the children have been exploring important global environmental issues such as waste and pollution through a geography-focused project centred around sustainability and eco-literacy. They then had the opportunity to become shortbread designers, using a given set of criteria to create their own unique ideas. Our children had a delightful day when the “Farm on Wheels” visited our nursery class! The children got hands-on experience with a variety of farm animals, learning about their names, sounds, and habits. They explored, touched, and interacted with the animals in a safe and friendly environment. The visit sparked curiosity and excitement, teaching the children about farm life, nature, and the importance of caring for animals.

Reception have been full of excitement this week as we welcomed some very special new visitors into our classroom. Year 2 had the most amazing time at their Kingswood residential. They had the best time pond dipping, animal petting and completing a baby animal hunt.
