Fossils, Rocks and Fantastic Discoveries!

Our Year 6 scientists stepped back in time this week as they explored the fascinating world of fossils and rock layers! The children investigated how fossils are formed and discovered how they can be found hidden within different layers of rock. They learned that these layers build up over millions of years, with each one holding clues about life on Earth long ago. Working brilliantly in pairs, the children created their own 3D models of layered rocks. Each layer represented a different period in time, and they carefully added a variety of fossils—including plants, shells and animals—to show how they become trapped as sediments build up. It was fantastic to see their creativity and teamwork in action, as well as their growing understanding of how fossils help us uncover the story of our planet’s past. What a brilliant hands-on science lesson!
