Physical Education

Mrs L Harper
Subject Leader

At Edward the Elder Primary school we aim to give all our children the widest of opportunities to be physically active, in addition to this we want them to experience a healthy and balanced lifestyle today and carry this physical positive attitude on with them in the future.

Our key aims being delivered through our offer of PE which are in line with the National Curriculum outlined in 2013 are:

  • Ensuring children develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

  • Encourage children to be physically active for sustained periods of time

  • Support children to engage in competitive sports and activities

  • Encourage children to lead healthy, active lives.

Following the guidance from The Association of Physical Education (PESSPA) we have separated our physical movement into three categories, as detailed below. Click on each to discover what the children at Edward the Elder Primary school have been doing to embed and improve their physical movement.

School Sport
Competitions take place beyond the curriculum, we have great links with Connect Ed who give us the opportunity to take part in a variety of leagues including: The Mixed Football League, Girls Football League, Netball League and Cross Country to name but a few.

What a fantastic start to our physical activities this academic year. We have well and truly started with a bang!
Physical Activity
We encourage all of our pupils at Edward the Elder to be physically active both inside and outside of school and endeavour to give all of our pupils every opportunity to show just how active we can be. Activities such as our newly instated Play Leaders, Bikeability and soon to start Wild tribes are offered to a variety of year groups. Alongside this, we encourage our pupils to actively travel to and from school, take part in housework and gardening, which are all great activities for the family to be involved with.

Meet our Play Leaders!
