The Maths Mastery Programme is continues to be rolled out across school. In 2025-26, Years 1,2,3,4 and 5 follow the Maths Mastery Programme and Nursery and Year 6 the previous long term plan for Maths. In addition, Reception and Years 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 now follow the Mastering Number Programme.

As a school we follow the 2014 National Curriculum and cover the subjects and topics as outlined in the statutory guidance.

Mrs K Evans has curriculum responsibility for maths and she can be contacted if you require further information.

The mathematics curriculum and approach to teaching this subject has recently changed. This is impacting positively on pupils’ fluency in number work and their confidence in reasoning and problem-solving.      OFSTED 2025

Bar Models

Bar models are pictorial representations of problems or concepts that can be used for any of the operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In word problems, they hold the huge benefit of helping children decide which operations to use or visualise problems. It is then up to the children to calculate the answer.
